About Pearlbrook

Adoption Process

How adoption works, in four clear steps

From browsing available puppies to homecoming day — including exactly how a reservation is placed.

  1. 01

    Find Your Puppy

Browse available Maltese puppies and individual profiles.

  2. 02

    Contact Pearlbrook

Ask questions and confirm current availability.

  3. 03

    Reserve Your Puppy

A $400 fully refundable puppy reservation deposit reserves a specific available puppy. The deposit forms part of the puppy's total adoption fee and is not an additional charge.

  4. 04

    Prepare For Homecoming

Follow the next steps and prepare for your puppy's arrival.

Reservations & Puppy Visits

Reservations & Puppy Visits

Two separate options, never both. The $400 fully refundable reservation deposit reserves one specific puppy, and the $250 fully refundable Visit Commitment Deposit books a visit at least 24 hours ahead. Each one forms part of that puppy's total adoption fee — neither is an additional charge.

Reserve a Puppy

$400

Fully Refundable Reservation Deposit

Reserves one specific available puppy. Fully refundable, and it forms part of that puppy's total adoption fee rather than an extra cost.

Visit First

$250

Fully Refundable Visit Commitment Deposit

For families who would like to visit before deciding. Book at least 24 hours before the intended visiting day. Fully refundable, and it forms part of the total adoption fee if you proceed.

These are two different paths, not two charges. The $400 reservation deposit reserves a specific available puppy; the $250 Visit Commitment Deposit books a visit appointment for families who prefer to meet a puppy first. Both are fully refundable, and both count toward the total adoption fee if you proceed with an adoption.

Maltese FAQ

The questions families ask us most

Grooming, temperament, daily care and what to expect from a toy breed at home.

What is the Maltese temperament like?

The Maltese is a companion breed known for being affectionate, people-oriented and playful. They generally prefer to be near their family, and many are alert and quick to notice visitors. Individual personalities vary from calm and cuddly to lively and outgoing.

How big does a Maltese get as an adult?

The Maltese is a toy breed. Breed standards describe adults as typically under about 7 pounds, standing roughly 7 to 9 inches at the shoulder. Adult size varies by individual and cannot be predicted with certainty from a young puppy.

What is the typical Maltese lifespan?

Maltese are generally considered a long-lived toy breed, commonly cited at around 12 to 15 years. Lifespan depends on genetics, routine veterinary care, nutrition, dental care and overall lifestyle.

Are Maltese good with children?

Many Maltese do well in families when interactions are calm and supervised. Because they are small and fragile, children should be taught to sit on the floor when holding a Maltese and to avoid rough handling, sudden grabbing or carrying the dog on stairs.
