Adoption Process

Our Maltese Puppy Adoption Process

A calm, transparent process from first inquiry through life at home, including how the $400 reservation deposit and the $250 Visit Commitment Deposit work.

Step by step

  1. 01

    Explore Available Puppies

Start on our available puppies page. Each published profile includes photographs and the puppy's sex, age, coat description and availability, so you can see who is currently looking for a family.

    • Review photographs and written details
    • Compare temperament notes between puppies
    • Note any questions you would like answered
  2. 02

    Choose a Puppy

Consider how a Maltese fits your household: daily routine, time for coat care, travel plans and who will be the puppy's primary caregiver. We are happy to talk through which puppy may suit your family.

    • Think through grooming and daily care commitments
    • Consider children, other pets and time at home
    • Shortlist one or more puppies you are drawn to
  3. 03

    Contact Pearlbrook

Reach out with your questions and a little about your home. We will respond personally and share the specific details for the puppy you are interested in.

    • Tell us which puppy you are asking about
    • Ask anything about the breed or our care routine
    • We confirm current availability directly
  4. 04

    Reservation

To reserve a specific puppy, a $400 fully refundable reservation deposit is required. The deposit forms part of your puppy's total adoption fee and is not an additional charge. Everything is confirmed in writing.

    • $400 fully refundable reservation deposit
    • Applied toward the total adoption fee, not an extra cost
    • Written confirmation of the agreed details
    • Any documentation is provided to you directly
  5. 05

    Puppy Visit If Desired

Families who would rather visit before making a final decision place a $250 fully refundable Visit Commitment Deposit to book the appointment, at least 24 hours before the intended visiting day. If you proceed with a puppy, it forms part of the total adoption fee rather than an additional charge.

    • $250 fully refundable Visit Commitment Deposit
    • Booked at least 24 hours in advance
    • Structured around the puppies' routine
    • Time to ask practical care questions in person
  6. 06

    Preparing for Your Puppy

Before homecoming we help you prepare: choosing a veterinarian, setting up a safe confined space, gathering grooming tools, and planning a quiet first few days.

    • Puppy-proof a small, safe starting area
    • Select a veterinarian and book a first wellness visit
    • Gather food, bowls, bedding, brush, comb and toys
  7. 07

    Homecoming

On homecoming day we go over your puppy's current routine and any paperwork that accompanies them, then give you time to settle in slowly at home.

    • Review of current feeding and sleep routine
    • Handover of any accompanying documentation
    • Guidance for the first 48 hours at home
  8. 08

    Continued Support

Our relationship continues after homecoming. Questions about grooming, feeding, training or general breed care are always welcome.

    • Grooming and coat-care guidance
    • Help thinking through training questions
    • A place to share updates as your puppy grows

Reserving versus visiting first

These are two different paths, not two charges. The $400 reservation deposit reserves a specific available puppy; the $250 Visit Commitment Deposit books a visit appointment for families who prefer to meet a puppy first. Both are fully refundable, and both count toward the total adoption fee if you proceed with an adoption.

Reserve a Puppy

$400

Fully Refundable Reservation Deposit

Reserves one specific available puppy. Fully refundable, and it forms part of that puppy's total adoption fee rather than an extra cost.

Visit First

$250

Fully Refundable Visit Commitment Deposit

For families who would like to visit before deciding. Book at least 24 hours before the intended visiting day. Fully refundable, and it forms part of the total adoption fee if you proceed.

We also encourage every family to have their own veterinarian examine their puppy. Our Maltese FAQ covers general breed care, and puppy visits explains how meeting a puppy works.

Registration & breeder credentials

Registration details are stated on each puppy's profile, and our AKC program participation is shown below. Program participation is not health testing, OFA certification or a guarantee.
